It’s Spring Break!

Spring Break 2012Practice these steps to ensure a fun and safe Spring Break.

Alcohol

  • Never accept a ride from someone you do not know.
  • Never leave a friend at a party or public establishment where they might be at risk.
  • Do not take any drinks (alcoholic or nonalcoholic) from a stranger.
  • Only leave a public establishment or party with someone you know personally and with whom you feel totally safe.
  • Do not leave your drink unattended.
  • If you are not of legal age, DO NOT drink alcohol.
  • If you are of legal age and choose to drink alcohol, do so in a way that does not put you or someone else at risk. One drink per hour with food in your stomach is a good rule of thumb. It is best to cap it off at four drinks per day for women and five drinks per day for men.
  • Do not drink and drive. Designate a driver or call a cab (and keep the number in your possession).
  • Alcohol abuse has always been the most common contributor of sexual assault; however more and more incidents have involved drugs such as GHB and Rohypnol. These drugs are tasteless, odorless, easily slipped into drinks, and almost impossible to detect until it’s too late. More information about date rape drugs is available at http://www.4woman.gov/faq/date-rape-drugs.cfm .
  • Realize it is perfectly acceptable to refuse alcohol and to feel comfortable and confident if you choose not to drink.
